DeBakey VA Medical Center is a partnership of world-renowned institutions that offers a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary approach to the treatment of liver diseases with highly trained and experienced physicians and state-of-the-art technology.
The center offers a comprehensive range of clinical services including liver transplantation, treatment of liver cancer, treatment of hepatitis C, abdominal paracentesis, fulminant liver failure treatment, and the evaluation and treatment of all forms of liver abnormalities.
Specialty physicians in cardiology, nephrology and pulmonology are available for consults. A wide range of services including pharmacy, dietary, nursing, and various spiritual affiliations are available to help patients and families cope with their disease.
The BCM Liver, Kidney and Pancreas Center is active in clinical as well as basic laboratory research. The center participates in and conducts clinical trials, including NIH funded studies, offering the latest therapies, in the areas of chronic viral hepatitis B and C, treatment of thrombocytopenia in liver disease and treatment of liver tumors.
The center also offers the services of the Hepatitis Program, which focuses on patient and family education, and optimal management of side effects of antiviral therapy. The ultimate goals of the research are to advance the treatment of liver diseases and the field of liver transplantation.
