Body Contouring with Cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting)

Recent research demonstrated that fat cells freeze more easily than the rest of the human body. When frozen, the fat cells gradually undergo apoptosis, a natural mechanism the body uses to remove unwanted cells. The Zeltiq CoolSculpting device takes advantage of that scientific breakthrough to allow us to gently remove localized deposits of fat. With the device we can now non-invasively treat problem areas such as love handles, belly fat, inner thighs and other zones. The procedure is relatively easy to undergo with no downtime afterwards. The treated area feels numb and tingles for a few weeks but pain afterwards is rare and typically mild. The results are gradual, allowing for the skin to gradually adapt as the fat layer diminishes. Patients are usually very satisfied after one to two procedures.

There are downsides to any technology or procedure. Some areas cannot currently be treated, and a consultation will be needed to determine if you are a good candidate. Although the vast majority of patients find the treatment and recovery very easy, there are patients who may experience discomfort or pain. A single session will not remove as much fat as liposuction, and the procedure will not cause dramatic weight loss. Having the procedure will not prevent weight gain, and it is still important to have a healthy diet and lifestyle. The cost ranges from $600-$1200 per zone; each zone takes one to two hours.

If you are interested in having this procedure, please schedule a consultation with one of our dermatologists who offer CoolSculpting. At Baylor Dermatology, if desired, our doctors will be able to provide a consultation and treatment the same day.
