Do you want to be part of the event but aren't able to run in it? Do you want to be part of a team that brings to our Houston community the only preventive health focused 5k charity fundraiser? Do you want to kick start your weekend with the awesome feeling of being a community service hero? Want to meet and work with a bunch of like minded enthusiastic people? If you answered yes to any one of these: Consider volunteering! We sincerely appreciate each and every one of our volunteers- we wouldn't have an event without you!
This year, the BCM Wellness 5K will be held on Oct. 21, 2017 in The Texas Medical Center. There are many different positions we need help with which are described below. We will try to match you with your preferences as best we can but we may need to move people around because some roles require more help than others.
Please note: times are subject to change. Ray will let you know the specific times closer to the event date.
Set-up volunteer (6 - 8:30 a.m.): Volunteers will be in charge of set-up of signs and water stations as well as directing racers to parking lots and other tasks to prepare for the race (emergency kits, tables, etc). You can also help with clean up if you are available.
On-site logistics (6:30 - 8:30 a.m.): Volunteers will be in charge of on-site race registration, packet/bib pick-ups, and t-shirt distribution for both adult and child runners. You can also help with clean up if you are available.
Bag-check (7 - 10 a.m.): These volunteers will help with checking in the bags for runners before the race and checking them out again after the race.
Adult race course directors (7 - 10 a.m.): These volunteers will be in charge of directing runners through the correct race course pathway at select points and call out mile times. Volunteers must be willing to stay through the duration of the race as well as be in charge of dispensing first-aid items if necessary.
Water stations: (7 - 10 a.m.): These volunteers will be in charge of ensuring that the water stations are stocked with water and cups as well as handing out water to racers. The primary tasks will be to fill up cups of water and handing them out to runners. Handing out water takes a steady yet fast hand. Volunteers must be willing to stay for the duration of the race.
Kid's race volunteers (7 - 10 a.m.): These volunteers will be in charge of directing children through the correct race course pathway at select points. Volunteers must stay through the duration of the race. Dress up and run with the kids on the 1 mile course to make sure they stay safe and have a good time! Play with the kids after the race while their parents race! Volunteers may be in charge of dispensing first-aid items if necessary.
Clean up (9 - 11 a.m.): These volunteers will help pick up trash and return supplies. They will also help pick up signs and cups left on the course.
