The annual Stiletto Strut to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer will take place Friday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon at Neiman Marcus in The Galleria. Stiletto Strut honors survivors of breast cancer and raises funds to support the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center, a part of the National Cancer Institute-designated Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine.

Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite pair of stiletto heels and walk The Galleria to help spread awareness for breast cancer, the most common form of cancer affecting women and the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women, according to the Center for Disease Control.

An event that combines fashion with fundraising, Stiletto Strut includes a champagne toast and light bites, a raffle and the Art of Fashion show beginning at 11:30 a.m., which is sponsored by Neiman Marcus and features fashions from some of the store’s top designers.

“I am so excited to be a part of this fun event and help Baylor College of Medicine raise awareness and further their efforts to end breast cancer,” says Ellen Elam, chair of the 2016 Stiletto Strut.

In addition, the C. Kent Osborne Award for Medical Excellence will be presented during the event. This honor, established in 2014 by the Breast Center’s Advisory Council, celebrates excellence in breast cancer research, advocacy and patient care and is named in recognition of one of the world’s premier breast cancer researchers and physicians. Osborne formerly directed the Smith Breast Center and now leads the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor as a professor and director.

“The Stiletto Strut honors breast cancer survivors and celebrates those who supported them through their difficult journeys. It is an opportunity for friends, families and survivors to come together to join in the mission to end this disease,” said Dr. Matthew Ellis, director of the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center.

Finding a Cure

Shelly Hendry, Megan Hotze and Limor Smith chair the 2015 event.

Proceeds from the Neiman Marcus Stiletto Strut and Luncheon benefit the life-saving patient care being delivered today at the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center and accelerate efforts underway to find a cure for tomorrow.

The Smith Breast Center is a major component of the Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine, which brings together research, healthcare for all cancers, education and outreach activities from the College and its affiliated hospitals to advance the fight against this devastating disease. The Duncan Cancer Center is one of only three National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in Texas.
