The combined teaching training and teaching component should comprise an average of 25 percent time, with most of the time commitment in the third year when the postdoctoral student will teach/co-teach one course each of two semesters.
REACH IRACDA Fellowship is a 3-4 year program which includes:
First 1 1/2 Years
During the first year and a half, the curriculum includes:
- Establishing laboratory research project
- Attending workshops on effective teaching strategies, minority health disparities, and how to interact with and mentor undergraduates to enter biomedical Ph.D. programs
Scholars will confer with undergraduate professors and select two classes to teach during the third year of the program. During this time scholars will observe the teacher in the class they will teach or a related class and begin planning their lectures with incorporation of leading edge technology and knowledge.
Scholars will teach or co-teach a total of two classes per semester, introducing cutting-edge technology and knowledge into their teaching. They will receive feedback and mentoring to enhance their teaching.
