Content

Baylor Students Against Cancer was founded in January 2015 with a mission to foster and promote an interest in all aspects related to oncology within the Baylor community. To this end, the group’s goals include raising awareness of cancer-related developments through:

  • Lectures and interactive sessions
  • Increasing student exposure to clinical oncology through shadowing opportunities
  • Advocating for oncology education in the Baylor undergraduate curriculum
  • Using oncology as a pretext for increasing student involvement in community service

BSAC is supported by an faculty advisory panel of Drs. Steven Curley, Ben Musher, Henry Mok, and Sean McGuire, as well as by Dr. Kent Osborne and the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center.

As an ASCO-sponsored Cancer Interest Group, we have received funding from the Conquer Cancer Foundation for future events, as well as access to a network of CIG's at other medical schools nation-wide.

Past events include lectures by Drs. Cliff Dacso, Jacob Mandel, Parth Mehta, David Poplak, and Kent Osborne; panel discussions on careers in oncology; a case report writing symposium with Dr. Frank Gannon; a student shadowing program at various Baylor-affiliated hospitals; a pre-clinical credit-bearing elective on Pathologic Basis of Cancer; and coordinating student volunteers Houston Avon Walk and Purple Strides events.
