Celebrating Faculty Excellence
Baylor College of Medicine hosted the first Faculty Awards Day, an omnibus event celebrating faculty excellence across all the missions of the College, on May 18.

Close to 200 faculty members were honored in Cullen Auditorium for outstanding contributions to education, community service and clinical care before their colleagues, family members and College leaders.

Elizabeth M. Collins, M.D., MPH, Courtenay Bruce, J.D., M.A., and Amit Parulekar, M.D., earned Norton Rose Fulbright Faculty Excellence Awards in Educational Leadership in the 2017 academic year. Collins does not have a Baylor College of Medicine profile. Bruce and Parulekar have left the College.

Courtenay Bruce, J.D., M.A., earned a Norton Rose Fulbright Faculty Excellence Award for Development of Enduring Educational Materials in 2017. She has left the College.

Avo Artinyan, M.D., won a Star Faculty Award for Excellence in Patient Care in 2017. He has left the College.
Master Clinician Award for Excellence in Patient Care
To honor outstanding contributions to the clinical mission by faculty members with 15 or more years of service.
Graduating Class Outstanding Faculty Award
To recognize the top five faculty members as selected by fourth-year medical students.
Ben and Margaret Love Foundation Bobby Alford Award for Academic Clinical Professionalism
To honor professionalism and humanism, and the recipient's ability to model these qualities in the practice of medicine.
DeBakey Excellence in Research Awards
This year’s honorees, Dr. Benjamin R. Arenkiel, associate professor of genetics and neuroscience and a McNair Scholar, Dr. Joseph S. Coselli, professor of surgery and Cullen Foundation Endowed Chair, Dr. Mary K. Estes, distinguished professor of virology and Cullen Endowed Chair, Dr. Bert W. O’Malley, distinguished leadership and distinguished service professor and Thomas C. Thompson Chair in Cell Biology, and Dr. Jordan Orange, professor of pediatrics - immunology, allergy and rheumatology, presented their research at the symposium and ceremony May 15 in DeBakey Auditorium.
Marc Dresden Excellence in Graduate Education Award
Graduate students honored Dr. Andrew Kelton Groves, professor of neuroscience, with the Marc Dresden Excellence in Graduate Education Award for his outstanding mentorship at the Graduate Student Research Symposium.
