On Jan. 28, 2018 faculty members from the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and the Rice University’s George R. Brown School of Engineering met in the BioScience Research Collaborative for a first-of-its-kind collaboration workshop hosted by the Rice Health-Related Research and Educational Initiatives (HRREI) and INSTINCTSM.
This event marked the birth of the BCM-Rice Surgical Engineering Program. Read full news article here.
This year, the workshop will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, again in the BioScience Research Collaborative 1st Floor Events Hall.
To date, the program has held several retreats focusing on an array of surgical research areas and clinical problems. To help foster collaborations with hard-lined objectives, both departments combined resources to offer three ‘Engineering Solutions in Surgery Seed Awards”, each totaling $20,000.
