Michele Loor, M.D., assistant professor of Surgery in the Division of General Surgery was awarded funding for her project, “Surgical Approach for Treatment of Small Ventral Hernias,” from Intuitive Surgical Inc., creator of the da Vinci Surgical System. Dr. Loor is primary investigator; Carlos Galvani, M.D. and Christy Chai, M.D. are co-PIs from the department. The multi-center, randomized controlled trial will compare laparoscopic versus robotic versus open surgery for hernias less than 4 cm. The study will include both Baylor College of Medicine and UTHealth surgeons.
Dr. Loor specializes in the care of patients with complex abdominal wall problems and hernias, offering robotic surgery as an option, which can decrease hospital stay and overall recovery time for her patients.
