Dr. Joseph S. Coselli, vice chair of Surgery and chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, recently traveled to Fuwai Heart Hospital in Beijing, China, as an invited speaker at the 9th Annual Fuwai Symposium of Aortic Diseases.  His address was entitled, “Understanding Contemporary Approaches to TAAA Repair: Commentary from Houston.” In addition, he performed a repair of an extent II Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysm (TAAA)  on a patient with Marfan syndrome, and was able to demonstrate techniques used here in Houston on our patients having the same procedure. Dr. Kim de la Cruz accompanied Dr. Coselli to assist in this complex aortic case.

Fuwai is the largest hospital for cardiovascular disease treatment, research, and education in China. There are over 10,000 cardiovascular surgeries and 25,000 interventional cardiac procedures performed each year at this renowned center. We are privileged to have hosted many visitors from Fuwai Heart Hospital over the years to observe techniques utilized in our operating rooms and to bring that knowledge back to their own center.
