Psychosocial interventions for the medically ill, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,
Mental Health Care Utilization and Quality (especially related to psychotherapy use)

Teaching Activities:

Supervisor and mentor for clinical and research rotations through the MEDVAMC Primary Care Mental Health Program. Advanced practice skills (e.g. psychotherapy, supervision, and manuscript/grant writing, taught to psychology interns, fellows and psychiatry residents. Regular instructor and lecturer for Baylor College of Medicine and MEDVAMC psychology intern and fellowship seminars (e.g. developing a supervisory identity, CBT for the medically ill); also lead instructor for cognitive-behavioral therapy seminar series for PGY-I psychiatry residents.

Academic Background and Distinctions:

Dr. Cully joined the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine in 2003. He is currently a staff psychologist and core investigator at the MEDVAMC's HSR&D Center of Excellence. He is also the director of the South Central Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (SC MIRECC) Advanced Fellowship in psychology and the curriculum director for the Houston HSR&D Center of Excellence.

Dr. Cully is a member of the Baylor College of Medicine's Academy of Distinguished Educators and has received Fulbright & Jaworski, L.L.P. Faculty Excellence Awards in Teaching and Evaluation (2009) and Enduring Educational Materials (2009). He presently serves on the steering committee for the Department of Psychiatry's Clinician Educator Track (CET).
