Clinical and Research Interests:
Outpatient treatment of psychiatric disorders in seriously medically ill individuals, psychotherapy, psychopharmacology of adult attention disorders, medical student educational programs, and residency education in neurosciences, consultation-liaison psychiatry.
Academic Background and Distinctions:
Dr. Kassaw completed her undergraduate education at Baylor University in Waco, Texas where she received a B.S. degree in Biology, summa cum laude. She received her medical education from Baylor College of Medicine, graduating with honor in 1997 and also elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed her residency education in Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine in 2001, serving as the program co-chief resident for 2000-01. She joined the Baylor faculty in 2001. She co-leads a PGY I seminar in clinical neuroscience, a PGY-II seminar in consultation-liaison psychiatry, and the PGY III weekly Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Case Conference. As Director of Undergraduate Medical Education she oversees the curriculum for medical students in Psychiatry and teaches several lectures as part of the core clerkship in Psychiatry. She is also the Associate Director of the Baylor Psychiatry Clinic as well as Director of the Clinic for Individuals with Medical Conditions and the Medical Director of the Clinic for Adult Attention Problems (CAAP).
