Content

The Diabetes and Endocrinology division of the Department of Pediatrics offers a four-week elective to second and third-year pediatric residents. The elective program is based at Texas Children’s Clinic Care Center located in Houston’s Texas Medical Center. Texas Children's is the primary pediatric teaching hospital for Baylor College of Medicine.

The resident will have the opportunity to see new and return patients under the supervision of the pediatric endocrine attending faculty. The clinical experience is broad and includes patients with Type I and Type II diabetes, thyroid disorders, adrenal insufficiency, abnormalities of pubertal development, ambiguous genitalia, growth and pituitary disorders, lipid disorders and disorders of bone metabolism. The resident will also observe the pediatric endocrine staff during teaching for diabetes care to provide more understanding of this disorder. Thursday afternoons include fellows case conferences, journal club and research presentations. At the end of the month, the resident will present a single 25-minute PowerPoint presentation on an interesting clinical case.
