Inpatient Service

PGY-4 fellows are responsible for six-eight months of inpatient service. PGY-5 fellows cover July month as needed during PGY-4 orientation. PGY-6 fellows cover four weeks of inpatient service as junior attendings, with faculty providing back-up coverage. We have two inpatient teams: one for diabetes and one for endocrinology patients. Each team has a separate pediatric endocrinology fellow and attending and is run with the help of pediatric residents, medical students and occasionally adult endocrinology fellows. On average, each team rounds on 10-15 patients daily, including consults.

Outpatient Service

PGY-4 fellows have three months of outpatient service responsibilities that include four half-day sessions (Attending Clinics) plus one fellow continuity clinic session per week. PGY-5 and PGY-6 fellows spend the majority of their time in outpatient service (including specialty clinics such as CFRD, PCOS, Cancer Follow-up etc.) or/and research time based on the chosen track.

Fellow Continuity Clinic

Every Friday (either morning or afternoon), fellows see their own patients in clinic and are precepted by a core group of faculty. Fellows have control over their patient roster. The type of referrals each fellow sees is built to ensure a fellow has a broad exposure to all of pediatric endocrinology and diabetes. In the second half of the third year, fellows do a full-day of continuity clinic to help prepare them for their new role as attendings.

Specialty Clinics

We have separate clinics for gender/ disorders of sexual differentiation medicine, long-term cancer survivors, thyroid nodules and cancer, lipids, polycystic ovarian syndrome, skeletal dysplasia, metabolic disorders, Prader-Willi, cystic fibrosis related diabetes mellitus, and bariatric surgery/ severe obesity.
