Career Planning and Mentoring

Our program offers a unique curriculum in career planning to assist fellows with their post-fellowship career plans and job search. Throughout their fellowship program fellows attend a variety of workshops focused on topics such as academic career pathways, benefits, interviewing and negotiating, productivity and promotion, and grant writing.

Additionally, in their last year of fellowship, our fellows attend a series of workshops about a variety of topics surrounding the job search process. Workshop topics include career and life planning, networking, self-marketing (elevator speech, CV’s and cover letters), understanding your future workplace, decision making and financial issues. These are offered through the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Pediatrics to all pediatric subspecialty fellows.

Also, our faculty provides our fellows career guidance and mentoring in one-on-one meetings. This is done through the fellow's clinical and research mentors as well as faculty with expertise in career guidance.

Overall, our aim is to help guide our fellows towards a successful, productive and satisfying post-training position that meets each individual’s career and personal goals and needs.
