The International Rett Syndrome Foundation is a merger between The International Rett Syndrome Association and the Rett Syndrome Research Foundation. The aims of IRSF are to provide an information and referral service, offer parent support through contact with other parents, and help in the funding of research aimed at finding the cause of RTT and methods for its prevention, control and cure.

Intensive research into genetic, neurochemical, neurophysiological and neuropathological mechanisms for RTT is under way at several research centers throughout the world. IRSF provides grants to promising researchers in the field of RTT and sponsors scientific symposia to bring scientists together to evaluate progress and explore new ideas.
