Training and Research
According to the Blue Ridge Institute, BCM's Department of Pediatrics is ranked number three in the nation in funding from the National Institutes of Health.
The department has 973 faculty members with a primary appointment in Pediatrics and more than 350 trainees in general pediatrics and every recognized pediatric subspecialty.
BCM has had a primary affiliation with Texas Children's Hospital since the hospital opened its doors in 1954. BCM pediatric faculty members largely are based at and practice at Texas Children's. The largest children's hospital in the United States, Texas Children's was #4 of only 10 hospitals nationally designated by U.S. News and World Report in 2014 for Honor Roll status in pediatrics. Texas Children's ranked among America's best in all ten specialty areas that were evaluated, including:
- Cardiology & Heart Surgery (2nd)
- Neonatology (2nd)
- Cancer (4th)
- Pulmonary (4th)
- Nephrology (5th)
- Gastroenterology (5th)
- Neurology and Neurosurgery (6th)
- Urology (7th)
- Diabetes and Endocrine Disorders (8th)
- Orthopedics (34th)
BCM pediatric faculty and trainees also work at the Children's Hospital of San Antonio and in numerous affiliated community-based ambulatory sites, as well as at the Ben Taub Hospital of the Harris Health System.
We thank you for your interest in BCM's Department of Pediatrics. Building on a strong foundation in patient care, research, and training, we are pursuing preeminence in every aspect of our mission. We welcome your inquiries and involvement.
