Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Program

The Baylor College of Medicine Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Fellowship Program is a progressive, broadly oriented, fully accredited fellowship that provides an opportunity to study the emergency care of children from infancy through adolescence, and in some instances, into adulthood.

PEM fellowship is administered through BCM and is conducted at the affiliated medical facilities of the school. While the majority of PEM fellows' clinical rotations occur at Texas Children's Hospital, some of the clinical shifts and rotations are conducted at St. Texas Childrens Emergency CenterLuke's Woodlands Hospital, the regional poison center at the University of Texas Medical Branch - Galveston, Ben Taub Hospital and University of Texas Memorial Hermann Hospital. With the exception of University of Texas Medical Branch poison center, located approximately one hour south of the Texas Medical Center by car, and St. Luke's Woodlands Hospital located one hour north of the medical center, all of the above institutions are located within the Texas Medical Center, and are within walking distance of each other. Weekly didactic conferences exist for the further education of the fellows and section members. Fellows' times are protected such that they are never scheduled to work clinical shifts during times preceding and coinciding with conferences.

Fellows may also pursue master's degrees in Business Administration, Education, Epidemiology, or Public Health during the course of their fellowship. For candidates interested in global health work, a global health track is available for fellows accepted into the PEM fellowship. Fellowship applicants interested in Global Health may apply for the PEM Global Health Track and may also apply for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship. Applicants with further questions may contact pemfellowship@texaschildrens.org.

The BCM PEM section faculty includes pediatric emergency medicine subspecialists, pediatric forensics subspecialists, and general pediatricians. All pediatric subspecialty areas and clinical services are well represented at Texas Children's, with most services providing 24/7 coverage for the emergency center.
