Adult Congenital Heart Program

The Adult Congenital Heart Program is a collaborative effort of Baylor College of Medicine, Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics together with Texas Children's Hospital. Backed by the combined technologies and research of these world-class medical institutions, our program offers the highest level of comprehensive and compassionate cardiovascular care. Over the past 60 years, advancements in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of congenital heart disease have greatly improved the survival of patients. These advancements have resulted in a growing population of adults living with congenital heart disease. The Texas Adult Congenital Heart Program is dedicated to the complete care of the adult living with congenital heart disease.

As pediatric patients with congenital heart disease transition into adulthood, our multidisciplinary team of experienced congenital heart specialists advise patients on health and lifestyle choices. This includes the physical challenges adults with congenital heart disease face as well as exercise options and family planning. Our Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) Program enables patients to receive continued care from birth to old age from experienced clinicians that combine compassion, social support, and cutting-edge research.

Adult congenital heart disease patients present special clinical challenges. Successful management of acquired adult diseases, such as coronary artery disease, obesity or hyperlipidemia, requires special expert clinical care. Our team has experience treating this select population using medical, surgical and interventional cardiac catheterization methods. We also perform advanced heart failure treatment and transplantation. We work collaboratively with the patient and their medical team.

Using state of the art equipment, our specialists perform the following tests and procedures to care for this growing population:

  • Cardiac Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging
  • Echocardiography
  • Electrophysiology: Arrhythmia and Pacing Services
  • Cardiac Catheterization both diagnostic and interventional
  • Exercise Stress Testing
  • Cardiovascular Anesthesia
  • Congenital Heart Surgery
