The Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine enjoys a national reputation for setting the standards for clinical practice, education of residents and fellows, and research. Within the Texas Medical Center, we provide clinical and anatomic pathology services at Texas Children's Hospital, Ben Taub Hospital, and the Michael E. DeBakey Houston VA Medical Center.

Since 1982, we have provided clinical and anatomic pathology services to many community health care centers in southeast Texas. Currently, we are partners with nine regional hospitals, surgery centers, and outpatient facilities in providing high-quality pathology services within a 100-mile radius of Houston. These institutions are served by board-certified pathologists who are full-time Baylor faculty members. They work on a "real-time" basis with Baylor pathologists in the Texas Medical Center trained in clinical pathology subspecialties (blood banking and transfusion medicine, clinical medicine, microbiology, and immunopathology) to provide a standard of clinical pathology services not usually available at small and mid-size facilities.

More than 50 board-certified pathologists supported by Ph.D. laboratorians comprise Baylor pathology's practice arm. A team of six Clinical Pathologists subspecialty trained in blood banking is led by Drs. David Yawn and Jochewed Werch at Ben Taub Hospital. Similar programs in clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology, clinical immunopathology, and hematopathology are also present within our affiliated Texas Medical Center Hospitals.

In anatomic pathology, we also have internationally-recognized experts who provide diagnostic services in the Texas Medical Center and work on a daily basis with Baylor pathologists in our outreach program.

The Pathology Practice Program at Baylor is unsurpassed nationally. We have consistently maintained the highest standards of service and clinician satisfaction.

Our longstanding relationships with facilities in the community, the development of a separate, intra-Baylor quality assurance program in community hospitals to augment their own programs, and our ability to meet or surpass practice standards for turnaround time and quality assurance provide evidence of our commitment to the highest quality care.
