Statement of Goals:
This elective provides the student with experiences in adult cardiac and general thoracic surgery.
Learning Activities
The student is expected to round with the residents and faculty on a daily basis. This experience includes time in the operating room (mornings) and participating in the preoperative evaluation and postoperative care of the patients on the cardiothoracic service. The student may occasionally be expected to participate in emergency operations, but there is no routine night-time call. Students are expected to submit histories and physicals for review by the faculty members. Evaluation is by the faculty members based on a oral quiz as well as daily performance.
