Statement of Goals:
This elective provides the student with experiences in adult cardiac and general thoracic surgery.
Learning Activities
The student is expected to round with the residents and faculty on a daily basis. This experience includes time in the operating room (mornings) and participating in the preoperative evaluation and postoperative care of the patients on the cardiothoracic service. The student may occasionally be expected to participate in emergency operations, but there is no routine night-time call. Students are expected to submit histories and physicals for review by the faculty members. Evaluation is by the faculty members based on a oral quiz as well as daily performance.
Evaluation Methods
BCM students will receive an evaluation form from the Registrar’s Office with instructions on the completion and submission process. Visiting elective students should provide the Clerkship Coordinator and or the Visiting Elective Coordinator with a required evaluation form from their institution. If the student does not have an evaluation form, Baylor will provide one and have the student evaluated.
