Statement of Goals:
The student works with mechanical ventilation, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, including Swan-Ganz catheters, and metabolic and nutritional support with emphasis on their physiologic foundations. Also taught at the VAMC
Learning Activities
This course is designed to augment the students understanding of basic medical sciences by applying them in patients with severely deranged physiology. The technical consideration for these interventions is also addressed. Night call in the SICU, every fourth night is required. Course open to all students who have completed the core surgery rotation with passing grade or higher. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the course director. Assignment made on first come basis.
Evaluation Methods
BCM students will receive an evaluation form from the Registrar’s Office with instructions on the completion and submission process. Visiting elective students should provide the Clerkship Coordinator and or the Visiting Elective Coordinator with a required evaluation form from their institution. If the student does not have an evaluation form, Baylor will provide one and have the student evaluated.
