Statement of Goals:
SATISFYS REQUIREMENT FOR 3rd/4th YEAR EXTERNSHIP- Students are encouraged to take the elective between January of the 3rd Year and December of the 4th Year. The student should increase his/her knowledge of the fundamentals of general surgical practice and acquire skills used in the evaluation and treatment of general surgical conditions. Hospital Assignment is made by the department.
Learning Activities
The student functions as a subintern on a busy general surgery service and take admitting call with the team every third night. The student is expected to become an integral part of the team by participating in rounds, operative cases and patient care conferences. Additionally, the student is exposed to a significant volume of trauma cases during this elective and have the opportunity to follow these patients to the operating room and surgical intensive care units where they assist with the patients' care. The student is evaluated by the residents and faculty with whom he/she works.
