Statement of Goals:
PREREQUISITE: 8 WEEKS OF CORE ROTATIONS AND COMPLETION OF 570-506 DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGY. The goals of this elective are to provide the medical student with: 1) an introduction to the principles of diagnostic imaging, 2) a demonstration of the importance of clinicoradiologic correlation in proper interpretation of imaging studies, 3) an appreciation for the appropriate imaging workup of common disease entities, 4) the fundamentals of image interpretation and, 5) sufficient exposure to advanced techniques enabling the student to explain to patients and parents the test a child is about to undergo. Learning Activities
To accomplish these goals, the student reviews plain films with the attending radiologist each day, observe the performance and interpretation of advanced imaging procedures, and attend all clinicoradiologic and radiologic teaching conferences which occur during the elective period. He/she prepares a brief presentation on a subject of the student's choice. He/she is expected to complete a short take-home exam and readings as outlined in the curriculum. The students have access to the Texas Children's Hospital Diagnostic Imaging Teaching File and the American College of Radiology Teaching File. There are no expenses, night or weekend responsibilities.
