Statement of Goals:
This elective will be offered only in the following months: August, September, October, January, March, April, and June. Faculty approval required for non-Baylor students. Approval must be secured from Dr. Alex Frigini by contacting Ms. Becky Baxter. Please do not contact individual faculty. During the four week radiology elective, the student will: 1) Learn basic principles of radiographic studies and procedures; 2) Understand indications for ordering different imaging modalities; 3) Become familiar with the basic radiographic studies such as chest radiographs, extremity radiographs and abdominal radiographs; 4) Understand how to utilize the radiologist as a consultant.
Learning Activities
1) Rotate through Abdominal CT, Chest, Emergency Center, Interventional Radiology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Musculoskeletal and Neuroradiology (maximum one week in each subsection); 2) Review the online Radiology teaching file - located on the Baylor Radiology website - www.bcm.edu/departments/radiology - Go to the "Education" Tab - Under "Teaching Files" select "Elective Rotation Teaching Files". 8am - 5pm Monday-Friday A student taking the radiology elective MERAD-506 MUST be present for the elective on the days listed below: - 1st day - Course Orientation - 8:00-9:00 AM - Last Tuesday and/or Wednesday of the four week elective (Presentations are given by students) - Last Friday of the elective (Quiz given to students) The goals, objectives, course outline schedules and expectations will be discussed on the first day.
Evaluation Methods
Exam at the end of the four week rotation - Powerpoint presentation of an interesting case to be presented the last week of the rotation - Additional assignments - Daily contact with faculty and residents - Daily attendance and lectures attended during the four week elective.
