Statement of Goals:
The research elective must be coordinated in advance with the appropriate faculty in the Division and approved by Dr. Saleh Shenaq, Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery. Opportunities include clinical research which entails chart review for clinical reports, publishing and scientific presentations or basic science research.
Learning Activities
The latter is conducted in the Plastic Surgery Research Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Rabinovsky. Research opportunities include microcirculation, animal research, nerve regeneration, molecular biology and gene therapy research. Student on Research elective could participate in an ongoing research project or develop their own. The students are encouraged to participate in all research meetings in the Division and to submit their work to regional and national scientific meetings including the National Student Forum, the Plastic Surgery Research Council, and the American College of Surgeons Research Forum. A 26 hour microsurgery course is offered at no cost on a competitive basis to interested students.
