Statement of Goals:
This elective will introduce 1st year students to quality improvement, exploring its methods, its relevance and importance to their future practice, and its relationships to patient safety, health policy, evidence-based practice, and patient-centered care. Interactive sessions will be led by BCM/TCH faculty, whose academic interests include quality improvement and patient safety. After completing the course, studetns should be able to understand and discuss the need for quality improvement and patient safety within health care, understand how evidence-based guidelines are formulated, and sicuss the impact of quality improvement on health policy.
Learning Activities
Faculty members from the section of Hospital Medicine within the Department of Pediatrics will instruct the course. The course is intended to be interactive, with discussions and activities supplementing didactic PowerPoint presentations.
