Statement of Goals:
Learn how to do a comprehensive and age appropriate history, with emphasis on sexuality, substance use, and emotional problems in the adolescent. To appreciate the multidisciplinary approach inherent in adolescent care. Time Commitment (includes days, time, rounds, etc) Clinic 4 ½ days/week; weekly case conference; Friday didactic lectures
Learning Activities
To learn how to do a comprehensive and age appropriate physical examination. To understand normal and abnormal pubertal development. To understand normal psychological development during adolescence. To understand chronic disease and how it impacts normal adolescence. To understand hospitalization and its impact on teenagers. To do a good pelvic examination. To learn how to evaluate for sexually transmitted diseases in male and female adolescents. To understand the menstrual cycle and menstrual disorders. To understand contraceptive care. To be able to evaluate for intrauterine pregnancy. To evaluate for depression and suicidal ideation in an adolescent.
Evaluation Methods
Reviewing written patient evaluations and oral presentations. Assessing knowledge in discussing cases
