Statement of Goals:
THIS COURSE IS NOT OFFERED THE MONTH OF JULY and SATISFIES THE REQUIREMENT FOR 3rd/4th YEAR EXTERNSHIP- Students are encouraged to take the elective between January of the 3rd Year and December of the 4th Year. The student functions as an acting intern and gains valuable clinical experience under supervision. The student will be assigned to a house staff team, working with the team as it rotates through the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). **The Visiting Student will be assigned to a house staff team, working with the team as it rotates through Level II for 2 weeks for orientation to Ben Taub and then the NICU for 2 weeks.
Learning Activities
The student will have primary responsibility for the care of patients, prepare and take part in weekly seminars, conferences, and daily staff rounds.
