Statement of Goals:
Students are encouraged to take the sub internship between January of the 3rd Year and December of the 4th Year. The student functions as an acting intern and gains valuable clinical experience under supervision. The student will be assigned to a house staff team, working with the team as it rotates through the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)at Ben Taub General Hospital. The sub-intern will admit patients, actively participate in patient care, draft orders, and work with the team and ancillary staff in caring for the patient. There is one week of night float during the third or fourth week of the rotation.
Learning Activities
The student will have primary responsibility for the care of patients, prepare and take part in weekly seminars, conferences, and daily staff rounds.
