Statement of Goals:
Outpatient experience in a busy general pediatric neurology clinic staffed by three pediatric neurologists, a neuropsychologist, an educational psychologist, social workers, and a nurse practitioner. Emphasis is on an approach that includes the child's social, emotional educational problems as well as the medical issues. Clinic evaluates a variety of pediatric neurological problems (newborn to 17 years of age) including intractable epilepsy, neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental syndromes including Rett Syndrome, cerebral palsy, headaches, tic syndromes, and mental retardation.
Learning Activities
The student is given the opportunity to develop expertise in performing the neuroogical examination and learn strategies for the evaluation and treatment of patients with neurological disorders commonly seen in a pediatric practice. Students work-up new patients independently under faculty supervision and participate in all conferences of the Division of Pediatric Neurology.
