Statement of Goals:
The purpose of this elective is to understand the pathogenesis of diseases and the role of the pathologist in the initial evaluation of the patient, establishment of the diagnosis and in determining the patient's response to therapy. Clinicopathologic correlation is stressed.
Learning Activities
The student participates in the departmental surgical pathology, autopsy, and cytopathology work under the direct supervision of a staff pathologist. At the completion of this elective the student should be able to recognize the gross and microscopic findings of common and other more unusual diseases.
Evaluation Methods
Students work closely with faculty and residents. The required evaluation forms are completed based on consensus of those who worked closely with the student.
