Statement of Goals:
The orthopedic surgery service at Shriners Hospital for Children - Houston offers a student clerkship in pediatric orthopedics. The clerkship includes both outpatient and inpatient activities. It may be tailored to those students not only interested in orthopedic surgery as a career, but those interested in the primary care specialties.
Learning Activities
Upon completion, the student should have an understanding of normal musculoskeletal pathophysiology of non traumatic pediatric orthopedic disorders, such as developmental hip dysplasia, clubfoot, cerebral palsy, myelodysplasia, and scoliosis. Participation in morning rounds, outpatient clinics, and surgery is expected. Night call is not expected, and extra expenses do not occur.
