Statement of Goals:
Faculty approval required for all Anesthesia elective registration. Offered each month. Early registration is encouraged! This course tends to fillearly and no changes in registration are permitted within two weeks of the start of the rotation. (Limited number of visiting student participation) Students must invest four or more weeks to receive elective credit. Students receive supervised instruction in the care of children undergoing surgery in the Texas Children's Hospital Operating Rooms, the principles of anesthetic management and the treatment of patients unconcious for any cause. This elective provides students a unique, controlled environment in which to acquire skills in airway management, venous access, patient assessment, and monitoring.
Learning Activities
This advanced clinical clerkship is designed primarily for, but is not limited to, students planning a career in Anesthesiology. The Clinical Skills emphasized during this rotation are important in any primary care specialty- pediatrics, internal medicine, medicine/pediatrics, emergency medicine, and family practice. All students are encouraged to consider this elective.
