Course Description & Learning Objectives:
This elective is designed to provide the learner with an introduction to pediatric diseases with emphasis on surgical and autopsy pathology.

Learning Objectives

-Interpret diagnostic tissue biopsies and surgical resections

-Describe cancer synoptic reporting

-Describe hospital autopsy procedures including Texas state requirements for obtaining autopsy consent and role of autopsy in quality assurance and improvement

Learning Activities
Students will rotate different days on various pediatric pathology services, including surgical pathology, cytopathology and/or autopsy services .

Evaluation Methods
90% Clinical Performance; 10% Presentation
