Course Description & Learning Objectives:
The goal is to get an understanding of some basic dermatopathology conditions. Dermatopathology is a subspecialty of pathology, and so only a very basic knowledge is aimed at. The student will get acquainted with common dermatopathology conditions including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, actinic keratosis, seborrheic keratosis, melanocytic nevi, melanoma, and representative examples of different types of inflammatory dermatoses.

Learning Objectives

-Identify selected common cutaneous inflammatory and non-neoplastic diseases

-Identify selected common cutaneous neoplastic conditions

-Describe common cutaneous pathological conditions, and be able to discuss the reasons for diagnoses

Learning Activities
The objective of this course is to give the student exposure to the histopathologic features of dermatologic disease. The clerkship involves daily sign-out of cases, participation in dermatopathology conferences, teaching conferences in dermatology and pathology, and possibly selected dermatology clinics (if available).
