500-513 Office Based (Medical) Ophthalmology
Counts toward 32-credit-hour graduation requirement.
Completion of core courses in Medicine and Pediatrics. The student must have a curiosity about the visual system. Offered each quarter.
The experience will involve the supervised examination and discussion of patients seen in two (Baylor Eye Consultants at Smith Tower and BTGH Eye Clinic) or three (Sugar Land Baylor Eye Consultants) clinic populations. Attendance at Grand Rounds, Cullen Eye Institute, 8-10 a.m. Fridays will be a significant element of the overall experience. Students considering a career in ophthalmology will have the opportunity to sample medical eye care in a variety of clinical settings. Students interested in primary disciplines should gain a broader understanding of the eye in systemic disease, and enable them to treat minor injuries or red eyes.
