Summer Research Opportunities for Undergraduates
Summer Medical and Research Training Program (SMART) for College Undergraduates
From its initiation in 1989, the SMART Program has provided students from more than 200 colleges and universities an opportunity to experience research in a nurturing environment. Between 80 and 90 positions are available each summer.
The size of the program affords a unique chance to work closely with students from many different ethnic, educational and geographical backgrounds who share a common interest in biomedical science careers.
Students come to Baylor for 10 weeks to gain research experience through work in a laboratory, and participate in many other activities designed to prepare one for the pursuit of a research career. A living stipend is paid. Any faculty member of the Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology can sponsor a SMART student.
