The Section of Nephrology at Baylor College of Medicine is dedicated to:

  • Teaching future leaders in nephrology to develop research in kidney disease, hypertension, kidney transplantation and the disorders caused by kidney diseases.
  • Promoting the careers of promising physicians and scientists in kidney research.
  • Providing excellent care for patients with kidney disease, hypertension, kidney stones, and transplantation and dialysis treatment.

With the excellent academic and clinical environment of BCM (For 2011, U.S. News & World Report ranked BCM as one of the top 25 medical schools for research. BCM is listed 13th among all U.S. medical schools for National Institutes of Health funding, and No. 2 in the nation in federal funding for research and development in the biological sciences at universities and colleges by the National Science Foundation.)

The Nephrology section uses these substantial resources to provide training and clinical care. Nephrology faculty concentrate on creating new projects and training opportunities for fellows in training. The excellence in research of BCM provides Nephrology section physicians with a strong infrastructure for its clinical and research programs.
