DeBakey Heart Center Animal Model and Surgical Core

The Section of Cardiovascular Sciences and the DeBakey Heart Center operate Animal Core Facilities in the Fondren-Brown Building that serve the needs of many cardiovascular projects which are supported by individual or large grant mechanisms. These core laboratories have effectively functioned in performing services to a vast number of research projects for three decades. A variety of outcomes from these laboratories include technology transfer, instrumentation services, collaborative advice and facilities to enhance cardiovascular research in general. One unique feature of the Core is the superb training situations that have resulted for several departments and training grants.

We require the participation of trainees in projects utilizing the core in consideration of experimental design and analysis as well as understanding the technology. All investigators are encouraged to do this. We will also help with designing and writing the appropriate description in grants and manuscripts.
