Wensel receives Alcon Research Award
Dr. Theodore Wensel has won the 2013 Alcon Research Award. The award includes a $100,000 research grant that will be awarded this summer.
The Alcon Award is being presented by the Alcon Research Institute, a virtual institute that honors outstanding contributors in the field of ophthalmic research throughout the world.
Dr. Wensel's research focuses on seminal contributions to the field of phototransduction and other areas of retinal research. These include the discovery of the GTPase accelerating protein (GAP) complex in phototransduction, now known to comprise the constituents RGS9-1, Gß5L, and R9AP, elucidation of molecular mechanisms of signal transduction in photoreceptors, and studies of the structural defects in blinding diseases known as retinal ciliopathies.
