Dear Members of the Baylor College of Medicine Community,
The word for the week in the world of COVID-19 is “stuck.” We seem to be stuck at a plateau in the number of cases, and so remain in a race between getting people vaccinated and the effects of variants. Worldwide, the situation is not good. The United States and Israel are doing better. My biggest concern is that the plateau we are experiencing will extend to September and the fall.
In this week’s video, I review all the stats, from global to local, as well as provide other updates. There is news about “breakthrough” cases where some people are getting COVID after vaccination. Those cases account for about 5,800 cases of 85 million vaccinated.
The most important advice continues to be: Get vaccinated. The Houston Chronicle published another op-ed of mine today. You can read it here. It concerns how many see requiring vaccinations as government overreach – similar to how people saw making seatbelts mandatory and making most public places no smoking zones. Let me know what you think.
And finally, there is one sure sign of springtime. Lily and Leo help me out in showing it at the end of the video.
Have a great weekend. Stay safe.
