Dear Members of the Baylor College of Medicine Community,
In this week’s video, I review the results of the Moderna vaccine trial related to efficacy and provide an update on our wastewater treatment data. The numbers are looking better in our area as far as COVID cases and hospitalizations, but it is too early to say we are on our way out of this pandemic. Some variants have emerged, which is not surprising, but it is expected the current vaccines will cover these.
Also, looking at three flights which became COVID spreader events, it is fascinating to see how transmission of this disease occurs. The flights, all studied by researchers with published data, were from London to Hanoi, Boston to Hong Kong and Dubai to New Zealand. I go through each of them to show how the infection was transmitted. Sequencing is a very important tool in showing how the virus is spread.
We are all a bit tired of separation from our social lives, and that goes for Lily too. After a long time apart, we decided to invite over her old friend Snoopy for a play date with her and Leo. You can see just how exciting that was at the end of this video.
Have a great weekend and be safe.
