Dear Members of the Baylor College of Medicine Community,
COVID-19 continues to surge. Case numbers and hospitalizations are going up, but the hospitals have not run out of capacity in the Texas Medical Center. Rural communities are being hit the hardest. Our experts are hopeful this particular surge may plateau in early to mid-February.
In this week’s video, I go through the latest numbers and talk about the virus variants that are emerging. It is important to do more sequencing of the virus to keep up with any changes. It also helps us in decoding the outbreaks that have occurred. I go through a few of these this week, including transmission among Marine recruits.
On Monday, we observe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, also a National Day of Service. Even with the limitations the virus has caused, there are still ways to volunteer in a socially distanced manner. I also ask each of you to take a minute over the weekend to think about inequities in our society and what we can do to help.
Have a relaxing and safe holiday.
