Dear Members of the Baylor College of Medicine Community,
The parallels between the Spanish Flu of 1918 and COVID-19 are very interesting. In this week’s video, I spend some time discussing the similarities. The most important takeaway, in my opinion, is that public health measures work. It was a tough sell to get some to wear masks in 1918, too. But public health campaigns were launched to get that message across and the Spanish flu died out.
Let’s take advantage of the lessons learned from that pandemic.
Thank you for all that you do for Baylor College of Medicine. And thank you for modeling good behaviors, like social distancing and wearing a mask. You are leaders by your example.
