Patients with emphysema typically have lungs that are too big for their chest. These big lungs put pressure on the diaphragm (main breathing muscle) and they do not allow it to move freely, making the patient short of breath. The aim of this study is to decrease the volume of the lungs by placing small metal coils that shrink the lung tissue. For more information see Lung Volume Reduction Coil Treatment in Patients With Emphysema (RENEW) Study.
