Abbott Carotid IMT: FIRST Study (H-22665)
Physicians at Baylor College of Medicine are conducting a research study to determine whether an investigational new drug that is added to your regular cholesterol medicine, will reduce your risk for heart disease. The study will last approximately 30 months with approximately 13 office visits.
Qualified participants will receive study-related procedures, laboratory tests, office visits, and investigational study medication at no charge. You may also receive compensation for travel. Qualified candidates are:
Men and women are at least 45 years of age or older who have been diagnosed with high triglycerides, low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, or "good cholesterol," and one or more of the following:
-Heart Disease (blockages in arteries of the heart)
-Peripheral Artery Disease - Blockages in the arteries of the leg or neck
-Diabetes Type ll
-Heart Bypass Surgery
-Two of the following risk factors for heart disease: cigarette smoking (within the last month), high blood pressure or on treatment for high blood pressure, family history of premature heart disease, waist circumference males >40 inches; females >35 inches, and age (men 45 years or older; women 55 years or older).
