Point-of-Care Breast Cancer Screening Videos
These videos were developed by the Community Network for Cancer Prevention to educate patients about breast cancer screening and to improve breast cancer screening rates..
Patients who are eligible for a mammogram are given the opportunity to view a brief educational video about breast cancer screening in English, Spanish, or Vietnamese before visiting with their physician. Each video, developed by the CNCP, is culturally and linguistically appropriate for African-American, white, Hispanic, and Vietnamese women.
Because the patient selects the video she prefers to watch, selection data can be used to analyze whether mammogram screening rates will improve, patient knowledge about breast cancer screening will increase, and patient attitudes about breast cancer screening will change.
All of the videos can be viewed online.
What is My Risk? A Breast Cancer Risk Calculator
Doctors at the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center and Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center, Baylor College of Medicine adapted the user interface of the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Tool, or the Gail Model, to make it more user friendly for the lay public. The Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Tool was designed by researchers at the National Cancer Institute and the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project as a tool for health care providers. This calculator estimates a woman’s risk of developing invasive breast cancer. Breast cancer can spread from where it started, called invasive, into other parts of the body, it is called metastatic breast. Women can use this tool to find out what their chances are of getting invasive breast cancer. Viewers have the opportunity to print their results to discuss with their health provider.
