KRAS Mutation Analysis - Tumor
Test Information: Indication for Study:

Identification of mutations in codon 12, 13, and 61 of the KRAS gene.
Test Details
Test Code: 9040
Special Notes: This test can also be performed on Fresh Frozen Tissue, Bone Marrow, and Leukemic Blood (#9041).

KRAS is commonly mutated and thereby activated in various human cancers, including lung adenocarcinoma, mucinous adenoma, ductal carcinoma of the pancreas, and colorectal carcinoma. The most common mutations of KRAS are concentrated at codons 12 and 13 (>90%) and less common codon 61 (~5-7%). These mutations render tumor resistance to various anti-cancer therapies.

Technical Limitations:

The sensitivity of detection is approximately 5-10 mutated cells per 100 total cells in the sample (5-10%).

Results of this test must always be interpreted in the context of relevant clinical and pathological data, and should not be used alone for a diagnosis of malignancy.
