COVID-19 vaccine social media campaign
Baylor has launched a social media campaign featuring members of the Baylor community getting the COVID-19 vaccine. Here's how you can participate:
- Take a photo of yourself getting the vaccine or an after photo showing the bandage on your arm (be sure to alert the vaccine administrator).
- Post on your social media using the hashtags #StickItToCOVID and #BCMCares and tag @BCMHouston. Include your personal motivation for receiving the vaccine!
- No social media? Send photo to Anna Kiappes to share from BCM.
- Share photos any time over the next several months as the vaccine becomes available. Check out the photos that have been shared already on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Return-to-Work/Training Guidelines after vaccine
The Return-to-Work Guidelines for faculty, staff, residents and fellows, and the Return-to-Training Guidelines for learners have been updated to include guidance following the COVID-19 vaccine.
Awards and Recognitions
Waheed to oversee hospitalist services
Dr. Umar Waheed has been named executive medical director of Baylor Medicine Hospitalist Services. In this role, he will work with site-specific medical directors to ensure quality patient care and deliver models of efficiency to our hospital partners. Dr. Waheed is assistant professor of medicine and has been serving in key hospitalist roles at Ben Taub Hospital and Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center.
Wu wins retina research award
Dr. Samuel Miao-Sin Wu, professor and Camille and Raymond Hankamer Chair in Ophthalmology, has received the Retina Research Foundation Paul Kayser International Award in Retina Research, presented by the International Society for Eye Research. He gave a talk titled "A2 Amacrine Cell-mediated Signaling Pathways in Healthy and Diseased Mammalian Retinas" at the society's award webinar on Tuesday.
Baylor, NRI selected as NIH Fragile X research center
Baylor was selected by the NIH as one of three Centers for Collaborative Research on Fragile X syndrome, the most common inherited form of intellectual and developmental disability. The new Center will receive about $9 million over five years in NIH funding and will be led by co-directors Dr. David Nelson, professor of molecular and human genetics at Baylor and investigator at the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children's Hospital, and Dr. Peter Todd, associate professor of neurology at the University of Michigan School of Medicine.
Baylor earns healthy workplace awards
For the fifth straight year, BCM has been recognized by Healthiest Employers LLC and the American Heart Association (AHA) for its outstanding health and well-being initiative, BCM BeWell. Baylor achieved the recognition of second place in Texas and 12th place nationally for the Healthiest Employers award, and received the Gold recognition from the AHA. Read more.

Join virtual Alex's 5k
Two days left to complete the 2020 virtual Alex's 5K Run/Walk & Kids' K, supporting autism organizations in memory of Alex Jamrich, the son of BCM faculty member Milan Jamrich. This marks the 10th anniversary of the event.
Free, virtual writing workshop
Inprint and the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy's Narrative Medicine Program will offer online 8-week writing workshops to the BCM community, using poetry, flash fiction and micro memoir centered around issues of race and identity to encourage discovery and spark creative writing. Classes offered 6:30 – 8 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 25 - March 15, or Tuesdays, Jan. 19 - March 9. Learn more and register today,

Holiday schedule
- The College will be closed Friday, Dec. 25, in observance of Christmas. There will be no NewsLink next week.
- Morrison Café, main Baylor campus, and Mary O's, McNair Campus, will be closed Thursday and Friday, Dec. 24 - 25.
- The TMC shuttle is off service Friday, Dec. 25. Remote parkers should make alternate plans. The Baylor shuttle is already on the holiday schedule.
- The TMC Library will be closed from Thursday, Dec. 24, through Sunday, Jan. 3. 2021.
New program offers diversity and inclusion opportunities
The newly launched Baylor COATS (Community Outreach, Action, Training and Service) program is seeking staff, faculty, students and trainees who are interested in activities and opportunities to advance the College's diversity, inclusion and equity goals. IT News: Microsoft OneDrive
BCM is moving from Box to OneDrive to benefit from the tighter integration with Office 365 in addition to realizing cost savings when compared to Box. Box has informed BCM of a significant increase of their pricing by 16-fold in 2021. The staggered transition to OneDrive is underway now with a specific group of users who have already been contacted. The remainder of the College will begin migration in June 2021 with estimated completion in early 2022. 2021 E&M Guideline education reminder
For faculty assigned mandatory education for the 2021 Office/Outpatient E&M Guideline Update, do not forgot to complete your assigned online module in Success Factors by the deadline, Dec. 31, 2020. Individual reminders will be sent daily by the compliance department to faculty who have not completed the education. If you have any questions or concerns, email complianceeducation@bcm.edu.
Physicians: Dispute industry payments
Dec. 31, 2020, is the final day to dispute 2019 Industry payments made to physicians reported to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Open Payments Database. This database currently applies to physicians only. You may view the payments reported under your name online. Detailed instructions on how to dispute a payment can be found on the BCM Intranet under Compliance and Audit Home – Physician Sunshine Act.
