Phung named to dermatopathology society
Dr. Thuy Phung, associate professor and associate director of global pathology in the Department of Pathology & Immunology and member of the Texas Children's Hospital Vascular Anomalies Center, recently was elected secretary-general of the Asian Society of Dermatopathology. In this role, she will work with the society to enhance the quality of the practice of skin pathology and promote the development and advancement of dermatopathology as a clinical specialty in Asia.
Sampson earns resident award
Dr. Topaz Sampson, a medical resident in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, received the Jeanne Spurlock, M.D., Memorial Award from the Black Psychiatrists of America at the organization's Transcultural Psychiatry Conference last month in Bermuda. The award recognizes an outstanding psychiatry resident.

-The Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center is hosting the inaugural CPRIT Proteomic and Metabolomic Facility Symposium, highlighting updates in cancer proteomic and metabolomic discovery research, Friday, Jan. 11, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Kleberg Auditorium. Register online.
-Join the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center's gynecologic oncology group for its annual Spin for GYN fundraiser, Jan. 26 at LA Fitness, 2130 W. Holcombe Blvd. Spin for GYN is a fun spin class event led by pro trainers and benefiting the Woman to Woman program, which assists low-income gynecologic cancer patients at Harris Health's Smith Clinic and the Texas Children's Pavilion for Women. Call for posters: Physician Health and Wellness Exchange
Abstracts focusing on the health and wellness of physicians, trainees and the academic medicine workforce are being accepted for the poster session at the Texas Medical Association's Physician Health and Wellness Exchange, which will be hosted by Baylor College of Medicine on March 2. Students, postdocs, residents, fellows, faculty and staff are eligible to submit; deadline is Jan. 31. See more information and guidelines.

Holiday shuttle schedule
The BCM Shuttle Service will operate on an abbreviated schedule on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and New Year's Eve, Dec. 31. Only the Red Shuttle Route will be in operation, from 6:45 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the following route: Main Baylor – Baylor Clinic – Jamail Specialty Care Center – BCM Medical Center – VA Hospital – McGovern Campus. Deadline extended for engagement surveys
The deadline to complete the faculty or staff engagement survey has been extended to Dec. 21. Input will help shape initiatives and decision-making across the College. Search your inbox and other mail folders for a message from StandPointSurveys@aamc.org to complete the survey.
Volunteers needed for flu vaccine study
Researchers at the BCM Vaccine Research Center are looking for volunteers to participate in a study evaluating an experimental adjuvant with an avian flu vaccine to see if it improves the response to the vaccine. You may be eligible if you are between the ages of 18 and 64, in good general health and able to participate for 13 months. Participants will be compensated up to $525.
